Now I am working as a marketing and communications intern at Jam Van Inc. — a marketing agency that offers specialization in experiential marketing, mobile experiences and out-of-home media. The team members are working from home. My tasks for this position are to manage Jam Van’s social media platforms, mainly including Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest, to keep track of all social media metrics, to take part in discussions and creation of marketing campaign proposals and so on. This is my first job opportunity in Canada and in the marketing industry, and I’m very excited to get this job.

My working week goes like this: I work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm. Every Monday morning, I attend a 1:1 weekly status meeting in which my manager evaluates my work for the past week and tells me what I need to do this week. All members of the team have a meeting every Wednesday morning to report to the team on each person’s work assignments and how they were completed. If we have a new client, we will arrange a meeting/brainstorm to discuss the client’s requirements and how to plan the campaign.

I spend most of my time managing social media. I need to submit to my manager by every Friday what needs to be posted on social media for the next week. Therefore, during my working time, I always design posters, create images and write copies for the social media posts. Besides, I create data analysis reports through Google Analytics, Statcounter and data on social media platforms. The report contains the most valuable data, which I graph and explain. I send the analysis report to the team members every Monday. This data will be very meaningful in how we adjust the content we post on social media next.

As a team specializing in experiential marketing, summer is often the busiest time of the year for us — brands want to run more campaigns in every summer. As a result, our team is very busy every day. But I really enjoy the job and I think it develops various skills. I can never forget my first day on the job and how excited I was to receive my first working email — it was the moment that made me feel that I was truly a marketer.
